General French courses are our basic language skills courses which we offer all through the year. These courses give each student flexibility in the number of hours they choose per week; we offer courses of either 10, 15 hours or 25 hours study a week in groups of 12 students maximum. You will develop your skills as a speaker of French to communicate successfully whether at school or university, in a business setting or when socialising with friends and family.
There are groups at 6 different levels from beginners to advanced students and courses start every Monday. On the first day there is an evaluation and needs analysis session in the morning and on the first afternoon we offer a free orientation session for new students, introducing them to the city of Rouen.

General French courses are based on communicative French and structural progression in mornings. Class times are 9.30am to 1.00pm, including a 30 minute recess from 11am to 11.30am. Students are encouraged and facilitated to use the language learned on the course. This covers all aspects of French language skills – speaking, listening, reading and writing as well as pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar activities.
In the afternoons between 2.00pm to 4.00pm, the lessons are organised in a series of workshops based around specific skills and cultural topics:
Monday: Vocabulary and reading
Tuesday: Written comprehension and writing skills
Wednesday: Listening skills and French life and culture
Thursday: Oral comprehension
Friday: Speaking
Class work includes individual, pair and group work, discussions, debates, roleplays, presentations, written tasks and listening exercises. Participants are actively encouraged to share their own ideas and experience in a friendly, supportive atmosphere while developing networks with other international students.
You can also add to your experience by attending our free, daily, optional workshops that begin at the end of standard afternoon classes.
French in Normandy can also organise additional individual lessons for students at any time. You can combine group classes with some one-to-one lessons if you want to focus on a specific need as well as working with other students and putting your language skills into practice.
These are tailor-made to suit your specific needs. One-to-one individual tutorials will take place in the afternoons, with schedules varying depending on your exact requirement. Just ask us for details.
