A course in teacher training in France will provide you with an opportunity to develop your professional skills and to exchange with other teachers from around the world.
Our small group lessons will help you enrich your language skills and apply new educational methodology useful for learning and teaching French as a foreign language.

These courses are for qualified teachers and use a communicative method to instruct both teaching methodology and techniques as well as French language and culture.
All teacher training course modules at French in Normandy are approved Erasmus plus training courses and eligible for funding from Erasmus+. Participants not eligible for Erasmus+ can take these courses as private direct-booking students, paying tuition directly to French in Normandy.
1. French for Teachers – French Language and Culture
Course Overview
On this programme, you’ll improve your linguistic mastery of French while exploring the legendary capital of Normandy, Rouen, and French culture in general.
This course consists of 25 hours / week of lessons and can be taken for any number of weeks, starting any Monday. The module in this course option is:
- Intensive French Language (EPFR1) minimum level A1
A typical day of this intensive 25 hour / week course is organised as follows:
- Morning: French language classes taking place in an open or closed group
- Afternoon: Discovery activities, visiting Rouen, its monuments and heritage sites, cultural or gastronomic workshops
Course Objectives
The objectives of this course are to:
- Develop and consolidate your language skills by enhancing competency in French language usage in a multinational environment
- Enrich your French vocabulary
- Enhance your competence in reading
- Equip you to work in French with key language and communication skills appropriate in educational, social and vocational contexts
- Promote awareness of French history and culture
- Develop your language skills to help you teach and communicate in French more efficiently and successfully

Who Is This Course For?
You don’t need to be a French teacher to take this course.
Participants can be beginner or intermediate level French language students with a goal to improve their general French skills as part of their personal and professional development.
This course is of significant benefit to teachers who are non-native speakers of French who intend to learn how to teach French or another subject through French (CLIL).
It is also beneficial to other school staff, including those working in student service or administration who need to develop their language skills to communicate with French students or to study articles or publications in French or anyone who needs to work on projects/exchange programmes/committees with an international dimension and those who need to liaise with French-speaking students, colleagues, counterparts or parents.

#2. FLE Methodology and New Approaches (requires level B2)
Course Overview
This course aims to help you perfect your teaching techniques and introduce you to new approaches and techniques, ultimately aiding you to further develop the characteristics of a good teacher.
Teachers from around the world share classroom practices, discover concepts used in fundamental research, and access new resources that optimise teaching performance.
This French teacher training programme even addresses practical examples of the use of digital technology in the classroom.
You can choose from the following modules:
- Intensive French Language (EPFR1) minimum level A1
- Methodology of Teaching French as a Foreign Language (EPFR2)
- French and Language Teaching Methodology (EPFR3)
- ICT Tools for Learning and Teaching in Schools (EPFR4)
- Teaching French Using Drama & Theatre Techniques (EPFR6)
- French Language: Cuisine & Gastronomy (EPFR8)
- L’Approche Neurolinguistique | Neurolinguistic Approach (EPFR9) B2 required
All courses are eligible for Erasmus+ funding.
This programme is offered in closed groups of a maximum 15 students, as either a 15-hour semi-intensive week or a 25-hour intensive week.
The week is structured as follows:
- 15-hour “semi-intensive” week – daily classes start from 9:30 A.M. to 1 P.M. with a coffee break between 11:00 and 11:30 A.M.
- Intensive 25-hour week – daily classes start from 9:30 A.M to 4:00 P.M. with a coffee break between 11:00 and 11:30 A.M. as well as a lunch break between 1:00 and 2:00 P.M.
All the sessions begin on Monday with a maximum number of 15 students per class.

- Become familiar with international best practices in teaching FLE
- Upskill with French language teaching theories and techniques for students aged 6 and upwards
- Understand principal neuro-linguistic teaching theories and pedagogical practices
- Become more confident using technology in an environment where students are familiar with a wide range of modern applications
- Achieve greater student engagement in learning in and out of school
- Learn about essential areas of French culture to promote awareness of French history and culture
- Deepen fluency of the French language

Our French teacher training courses are based on a communicative approach to help French teachers in their daily activities.
To promote constructive dialogue, our classes have a maximum of 15 students in any programme, which makes it easier to speak and exchange ideas. This means you can get answers to your professional and even personal questions related to teaching.
The course not only promotes the acquisition of special skills, but also helps you to view things from the perspective of a student. Moreover, you will learn all this in real-life situations.
Who Is This Course For?
This course is for both French language teachers as well as CLIL teachers (content and language integrated learning), meaning teachers who are teaching other subjects in the French language.
It is of benefit for teachers with at least CEFR level B1 mastery of French and whose focus is to thoroughly study the challenges of the language to form part of their teaching methods. The design of this course ensures you will fine-tune your linguistic and pedagogical skills as you gain more knowledge about methods, technology, as well as French culture and civilisation.

Who Is Our Erasmus+ Teacher Training For?
As well as French language teachers, many of the modules are also relevant to teachers of other languages, since the skills and techniques taught are transferable to other subjects and languages.
Many modules are also relevant to other school staff, such as those working in student service or administration who need to develop their language skills to communicate with French students, or to study journals or publications in French.

Who Is Eligible for Erasmus+ Funding?
Teachers and staff members from the European Union or non-EU Erasmus+ programme countries.
With Erasmus+, training opportunities are available to staff working in education, both in teaching and non-teaching capacities. Training periods abroad can consist of job shadowing, observation periods or specific training courses abroad.
Erasmus+ Agreements
French in Normandy, Rouen, France (PIC 932062428) works in close partnership with Shadows Professional Development for Europe PIC (949086219). Our Erasmus+ Teacher Training courses are held at the school in Rouen.
We are Erasmus+ School specialists. Shadows has over 20 years’ experience in Comenius/Erasmus+ Course Provision, leadership and management of large-scale projects (school and international), and E.U. Project assessment including:
- 5 Comenius Regio projects, 2 recommended as “exemplary” and used as models in Brussels: Migrant Education, CLIL, Continuous Teacher Professional Development, Earth Charter Ecology and Learning to Learn
